Our thoughts on Petsmart acquiring Chewy.com

Earlier today, news broke that Petsmart would be acquiring Chewy.com and I will say our first thought was disappointment.  I have a feeling that Petsmart bought them because they couldn't take the competition.

Chewy.com has always prided itself on excellent customer service and that has been evident in the reviews and posts on their page.  Their goal is to provide excellent customer service and they have done that and more.  Their prices can't be beat and most orders I receive my item the next day (within 24 hours of ordering) and you won't get that from Petsmart.  You see posts on their page of people praising how they went above and beyond.  Some examples include people calling to return an item to just delivered because their dog passed away and being told that they will refund the charges but to just donate the food to an animal shelter instead.  THAT is what makes a good company, heart and compassion.  You see posts of bouquets received by customers after a pet has passed.

Here is a current response from Chewy.com that they posted in a Facebook comment

I can guarantee one thing, Petsmart will NEVER offer that type of customer support or genuine caring that Chewy.com brings to the table.

I am beyond disappointed that Chewy.com has chosen to sell out to the heartless corporation that is Petsmart.  I am afraid that Chewy.com will turn into a company that lacks compassion and knowledge about the products they sell.  Only time will tell what happens, but I have a feeling that Chewy.com will change and it won't be favorable for them.

Review: Hill's Ideal Balance Dog Food

We received a free sample of Hill's Ideal Balance to review.

I will say, we are not big fans of Hill's pet foods but we went in to this with an open mind.  Our dog had no issue eating this food, we did mix with her existing food for the first few days to prevent any digestive upset.  I will add, my dog is NOT picky by any means

Here are the ingredients for the food we sampled:
Chicken, Brown Rice, Brewers Rice, Cracked Pearled Barley, Chicken Meal, Whole Grain Oats, Chicken Fat, Pea Protein Concentrate, Flaxseed, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Liver Flavor, Lactic Acid, Vegetable & fruit blend (Green Peas, Apples, Cranberries, Carrots, Broccoli), Potassium Chloride, Iodized Salt, Choline Chloride, vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Niacin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement), minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Taurine, Mixed Tocopherols for freshness, Beta-Carotene, Natural Flavors.
The biggest downfalls for us would be that this is a plant based food with a moderate amount of protein coming from meat.  Chicken is the first ingredient but once cooked the chicken looses most of it's water content reducing the meat to just a fraction of the original weight.

Another issue is that the majority of the calories are coming from fat rather than from protein and we would much rather our dog get her calories from protein rather than fat.

Based on reading the ingredient label alone we would have to NOT recommend this food as there are much higher quality foods out there for your pet.  However, this is higher quality than some foods out there so if you are debating between those foods and this one pick this food.

Seventh Generation Healthy Baby Healthy Home

We hosted a Seventh Generation Healthy Baby Healthy Home party and we received a lot of great products to share with our guests.  Some were even friends that lived far away but still wanted to see all the great things that Seventh Generation had to offer.  We received all of the supplies and products for free in exchange for hosting a party.

We really enjoyed hosting the party and sharing our knowledge that we learned from the facts provided in the kit with all of our guests.  Our toddler really enjoys the bobble bottle.  It is the bobble infuse bottle and we highly recommend it.

Fun Fact:  cleaning companies do not have to list ALL ingredients on the bottle because they are currently not required to do so.

Here are some more photos of the products included
