"Caricature" has been defined as an exaggerated portrait that distorts the essence of a person or thing to create an easily identifiable visual likeness.  

Who would have thunk that caricature can be traced to the likes of Leonardo di Vinci and the aristocratic circles of France and Italy?  So dispatch those art snobs with a wave of your hand who decry cartoony art as not being real art.  Because, art it is...although with a larger degree of freedom to create a fun, entertaining and humorous style.  A caricature will bring a smile to your face, warm your heart and uplift your thoughts with depictions of your Doberman's blatant adorability, comedy, pure beauty and innocence.  A unique and wonderful keepsake of your Doberman to treasure.

Up for bidding is a framed, commissioned Single Canine Caricature of YOUR deserving reprobate by caricature artist John LaFree.  Whether a Doberman or an "off brand" canine, a horse, a cat or even a hamster if you so choose.  John and his wife are passionate animal lovers who work with shelters and rescues to raise funds for homeless animals.  A Single Canine Caricature consists of a custom, full-body and color sketch, hand drawn on 14"x17" premium, solid white smooth bristol 100lb paper using markers, Prismacolor art stix...and a wee bit of magic.  The artist will work from pictures that you have supplied to create a studio quality caricature portrait.  As this is a custom caricature, four weeks will be needed to complete the caricature from the time your pictures are received.

The caricature will be custom matted and framed in a 16"x20" cherry frame.  The width of the frame is approximately 2 1/4" wide. 

The custom caricatures shown are samples of the artist's style and are not the final product.

How it works: Once you've won the auction, D.A.N. will contact you to supply the reference photographs and shipping address.  The artist will need at least 3 facial and 3 body photographs of the subject to be drawn.  The more photos the better.  The images you provide will be the only reference the artist will have, so make sure that you send photos that accurately represent your dog.

FOR EXAMPLE: If you want your dog drawn with their ears UP, make sure to send photos of your dog with their ears UP!  Also feel free to include any helpful descriptions, such as confirming the color of their eyes or coat.  Turnaround time for the creation on the custom caricature is approximately four weeks from receipt of your photographs.

Poor little Coco.

Coco is a little one year-old Dobie girl picked up as a skinny stray in rural South Carolina and taken to a local shelter.  A shelter volunteer mentioned the sad little Dobie to a friend who then went to the shelter and adopted her.  Two weeks later the volunteers' husband went to the friend's house and saw that poor Coco was even thinner than better and clearly not being taken care of.  He decided on the spot that he was taking her home with him.  With tears in his eyes he picked her up and carried her to his car and took her home with him.  Unfortunately, they already had 5 dogs so they couldn't keep poor little Coco.  The volunteer reached out to D.A.N. for help.  

 

Thanks to D.A.N. and Forever Dobes, Coco is now safe, well taken care and living the life while she awaits her new, loving forever home.

Dear Fellow Pet Parent:

At Catswell, our number one priority is the safety of our products and the health of our feline customers. We strive to make and sell only the highest-quality, natural cat treats with added vitamins that provide functional benefits such as improved hip health, breath, and other benefits.

During routine testing of our products, we recently discovered that two batches of our Catswell VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins tested positive for a limited presence of an ingredient called propylene glycol. Although this ingredient is “generally regarded as safe” for both humans and dogs, the FDA does not allow it in cat food or treats, even at trace levels. Although no cases of illness in cats have been reported due to the two batches, we felt a voluntary recall was necessary. We have issued an FDA-approved press release to make our customers aware of the situation, identified the stores that received the product, and contacted them to return the product to us. While we were able to catch much of the affected product, some products did make it into the homes of our customers. For that, we are sincerely apologetic.

We are doing everything we can to resolve this situation quickly and ensure that our customers can continue to feel confident feeding Catswell products to their cats, as we do here.

Why is Catswell recalling two “lots” of Catswell VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed & Vitamins?

During routine testing, the Company and the FDA discovered the limited presence of propylene glycol in two lots (batches) of the product. Propylene glycol is “generally regarded as safe” for humans and dogs, but the FDA has not determined that propylene glycol is safe for cats.

Have there been any reports of cats getting sick from eating the affected product?

At this time, there have been no reports of any cats getting ill from the product in question

How can I tell if I have a product that is affected by the recall?

First, determine if you have the product that was affected. The affected product is Catswell brand VitaKitty Chicken Breast with Flaxseed and Vitamins in an orange package and is the 2oz size.

If you have a product that may be affected, turn the package over. In the bottom right hand corner on the back of the package is a code printed in black ink underneath “Best Before”. The following two codes indicate the affected product:

If you find that you have a package that is affected, please discontinue feeding the product to your cat. You can return it to the store where you purchased the product for a full refund.

Banfield=Bad Business (updated)

UPDATE 7/27/2012:  After this blog post, a post on their facebook wall, an email, a tweet, and another email this time to their CEO, they have decided they could fill our female dog's prescription.  I don't know why it was so difficult and took so much public posting and emailing to get something done.

I usually don't post negative stuff, but I think this time it's important and more people need to see what Banfield is really about.  Go check out all the complaints on their facebook page or go read Consumer Affairs.

Note: of all times I have been to Banfield before, I have never had a problem, but then again, I've never really had any prescriptions filled there before. She has serious anxiety problems and we've done all kinds of training to help it, but putting her on the human generic of Reconcile is the only thing that has helped (it's basically dog prozac and the $4 generic is available at Wal-Mart and Target, just check the list to make sure it matches up) Sorry, but in this economy, paying $60 a month AT LEAST for a dog drug which I can get for Wal-Mart or Target for just $4 a month makes a lot more sense.

Not so happy with Banfield, I was told when I got a prescription for my dog that they would still fill my prescription and refill it even though I was having to move (the military moved us nowhere near a Banfield). Since she already had her year checkup and her shots there at the same time they prescribed the meds we agreed that it made no sense to have me go to another vet and pay to have another annual checkup just to get the prescription filled)

I called Sunday to have them authorize a refill (they just called back today AND they already scheduled an appointment for me on top of that without ASKING) and now it's no you have to come in for a check-up. They stated when I had it filled all I had to do was call and I wouldn't have to go back in, she would ask me how she was doing via phone and we could go from there. They were well aware of the military situation as I pointed it out and asked about it more than once and made sure that it would be ok.  Apparently that is not the case now and that was all a big fat lie.  I mean I only spend $200 there that day for 2 SHOTS, a heartworm test (because they wouldn't take the one from her other vet), and a 6 month supply of GENERIC heartworm medications.  

I guess I'm out of luck now and I'll have to pay all that money to try and find another vet that will write the human generic form (because $60 a month for a supply of pills is ridiculous when you can get the same thing from Target for $4 a month)  Either way, she will still be off her meds because the Vets around here aren't open on weekends, they close early on Friday and they didn't have any room to squeeze her in.  Awesome.

I'm very disappointed, I'm never going back to another Banfield again. I was flat out lied to and the only one that is going to end up suffering is the dog. She has done so much better on these meds and now she is just going to have to suddenly stop them. Shame on you Banfield, Shame on you.
