Cancer Updates - Week 3

An update for our cancer post, check here to read about it.

We went back on Monday to have our CBC levels rechecked and they were still not high enough to receive chemotherapy so we did not received chemo that day.  We went back again today (February 18th) to recheck the levels and we haven't heard back yet.  Our vet didn't come in until later so we probably won't hear anything until tomorrow.  

Added February 21st:  His levels were high enough so we gave him his chemo of two capsules on Friday morning, then one capsule every morning for 3 days.

He loves going to the vet so it's no big deal.   He actually loves going wherever, he's not particular.  

Everything so far has been covered by a pet insurance, yay for pet insurance!

No real changes in personality or appetite.  He's still a pig, still hyper, and still destructive.  He's pretty cute though and the baby loves him.

Cancer Update - Week 2

Today would have been our second chemotherapy appointment.  However when we went in they ran the CBC and the counts were not high enough so we go back Monday to have the levels rechecked.  We did get lots of loving from all the people in the office, he is kind of an attention hog so it happens a lot.

Everything today was covered by a pet insurance, yay for pet insurance!

No real changes in personality or appetite.  He's still a pig and is still hyper and destructive.

Here's a picture on our way to the vet (don't worry the car was stopped, the light was too perfect to not take a picture in the car).  Plus, it was way too cold to be outside taking pictures.  Collar is by Collar Mania.

A cancer update...

An unfortunate update on one of our "bloggers"

In October 28, 2014 our Boston Terrier mix was diagnosed with lymphoma.  We went in for yearly blood work and ended up coming back on the office's surgery day to have a biopsy done (photo is at the very end of the stitches if anyone is interested, it's not that gory and trust me, I do NOT do blood or anything gory).  The biopsy results were supposed to take 10-14 days, we had the results back in less than a week and it was a confirmed diagnosis of lymphoma.  We immediately set up an appointment with the specialist and began chemotherapy that day.  Fast forward to May 2015 we made it through chemo every week or every other week to achieve a diagnosis of the cancer being in remission.

February 6, 2016 we received the unfortunate diagnosis via needle aspiration that the lymphoma was back.  I already knew it was back, I just knew.  We have already begun chemo and we will try and update weekly with how everything is going and hopefully end with a blog post that he is in remission.

Our favorite ways to save money on every day items

We like to save money, especially on every day items.  Who doesn't like to save money?  Times are tough and why should we pay more for something if we don't have to?  We don't extreme coupon or clear shelves, we only buy what we need and what we will use.  We also don't have a huge stockpile, so don't get the wrong idea about us.

So, we are going to share our favorite ways to save money with everyone.



First, coupons.  Print and clip those coupons!  Every little bit adds up, especially when you can stack with store sales and the rest of our methods of saving.  Our go to site to print is coupons.com

For clipping coupons, we subscribe to the newspaper.  We only get 1 newspaper on Sunday, we know other people get 4 newspapers but that isn't for us.  For newspaper deals check out Groupon and LivingSocial.  You can usually find a good deal for a Sunday only delivery for your local newspaper, much cheaper than newsstand prices.




Second, shop those sale ads.  If you look at the ads every week you get used to the sale prices and normal prices and you can gauge what is a good stock up price for you.  Meat is something we like to stock up on if it's cheap because it freezes well.  We normally buy the family size packs of hamburger meat and pre mix it into meals and freeze those.  Freezer meals are pretty awesome as well.  Pasta is also something good to stock up on,  you can do a lot of things with pasta.




Third, use cash back apps!  Seriously!  You can save so much money using these apps.  We will list all of the ones we use.

Ibotta - We have been using this for a long time.   Plus, all you need is a grocery receipt to get started.  It's simple, open the app and pick the grocery store you shop at and you pick the rebates for items that you are interested in purchasing.   Plus, join using this link and get a $10 bonus just for uploading your first receipt.  That is $10 FREE dollars just for using the app.

Find&Save - We just started using this app but we love it!  Hurry up and download it and use code CR87 when you install it.  As soon as you hit $25 it automatically deposits that in your Paypal account!  All you have to do is upload pictures of your receipts and it is for purchases for the entire store and not just certain items (except on rare occasions)

Checkout51 - Another app where you choose rebates and upload receipts.  The new rebates get added every Thursday.  After Christmas we ended up MAKING MONEY on all of our glade purchases from Target, clearance plus Checkout51 which offered a bonus for every combo of offers that was redeemed.   We spent $5 and got $19 back from Checkout51.  They send you an actual check, they don't deposit like some of the other apps but either way you still get your money.

Mobisave - This is an awesome app, just make sure you select your offers BEFORE you go shopping and checkout at the store.  When you are done you upload your receipt and when your receipt gets approved you get paid IMMEDIATELY to your Paypal account.  It is now available on Android and Apple so go download this.

Review of Purina Beyond Treats

We received these treats via Smiley360 in exchange for an honest review.  The treats are grain free and the bags tell you where the treats were made.  Only 1 blogger was willing enough to actually pose with the treats for photos the other just wanted to be fed, what can you really do, they are dogs and stubborn at times.

Here is what each treat looks like from left to right you have chicken and carrot jerky strips, chicken cutlets, salmon and oats biscuits, chicken and apple jerky strips, and chicken and barley biscuits.

I'm going to be honest, my dogs aren't exactly picky so they would eat them no matter what.  The Salmon biscuits you can tell where made with Salmon when you open the package because they smell like salmon when you open the bag, that was the only bag that had an odor too it, it wasn't terrible but you could definitely smell them.

See, waiting patiently like a champ.  He suckers you in with those cute puppy dog eyes so you feel bad for him and give him lots of treats.  He did survive lymphoma so how can you really say no?  You can't.

He enjoyed eating every single type of treat that we received, he eats fast so we didn't get many pictures and it's hard to get clear ones of him.

All in all, the Purina Beyond treats were good treats, neither dog had any reaction to them and enjoyed snacking on them.  We would purchase them again.
